Backpackers Hostels Salta, Argentina
Please check all prices as they change frequently. They will also go up in the high seasons - January/February and July/August
Table 1 - Basics | Table 2 Quick Comparison | More Low Price Hostals
Below are more low priced places which are similar to hostels but are not quite backpacker type hostels. For example, they may not have shared rooms. Or they might not have shared baths.
| Alcazar | 30 | Balcarce 81 | 422-3800 | http://www.hostalelalcazar.com | This is nice but has no dorm rooms, and all rooms have a private bath. |
| Hostal del Illaq | Caseros 1195 | 431-3768 | www.hostadelillaq.com | This hostal seems more for families. | |
| Virgen de Pompeya | 20 | San Juan 229 | 421-8667 | hostalvirgendepompeya@hotmail.com | |
Below are two places which are sometimes listed as hostels but which aren't really hostels anymore. They are more like cheap lodging for locals, although they sometimes still accept travelers.
| Parador | 18 | La Rioja 573 | 426-0205 | www.paradorsalta.com.ar | Not really a hostel anymore | Note |
| Paskana | Alvarado 1647 | 4316233 | www.hostalpaskana.com.ar | Not really a hostel anymore |

As of November 2006 this is a new hostel owned by a Frenchman named Olivier, of couse. Later I will post pictures.
The website paradorsalta.com.ar is out of date. There is a new owner and a lot of the info is not accurate anymore. For example the website says this but it is not correct now.
At night you may join our "La Noche del Viajero" (The Traveler Night) every Friday or the "Fiesta de la Tradición" (Tradition Party), to taste the most exquisite traditional dishes while Argentine folk music is played live.
Also, on Wednesdays we offer our typical "Parrillada" (Barbacue), together served with the famous wines from Salta.
And at this writing there is no Internet and hasn't been for several months. The owner said he plans to put it back in, but if this is important to you, check first.

This hostel was formerly called "Puesto Viejo II". It has more double rooms with private bath and is little quieter than Puesto Viejo on Jujuy. which is a bit more for young travellers and parties. As of Nov 2006 they are sharing the same webpage and email.
