Alonso, Leather Craftsman, Buenos Aires, San Telmo District
I met Alonso one Sunday at the street craft fair on Defensa. We had a long talk about a lot of things. His girlfriend is a psychologist but from talking to him she didn't seem like the tyical psychologist. For example, if I am not mistaken he said she thinks it is okay to hug the people she helps.
Another thing we talked about was my idea of having highschool students. make web pages for craftsmen like Alonso. Every since I got to Salta and saw the high quality of the products, I have thought about this. The artists and craftsmen there told me they typically don't have much or any time for marketing and promotion because all week they are busy making their products to sell on Sunday. Almost none of them have web pages and a lot don't even have email addresses, or if they do they don't check their mail very often. And very few of them spoke English well enough to answer emails in English about their products.
My idea is that the students could make a commission for helping sell the products. This way they would be helping someone, learning and making money at the same time.In Argentina there are special commercial high schools where the students are learning about business, so they could get school credit for a project like this, too.
I haven't had time to develop the idea, so if you want to work on it yourself, or if you want to help me with it, there it is.
